After the last 2 and a half days spent in flannelette pyjamas on the sofa with some virus, I have felt much better this afternoon. Managed to walk the stir crazy Small Dog round the block (I did manage to get dressed first), albeit felt sweaty and tired afterwards though. Have just had an urge to sew, (that feeling that you've lost a couple of days and need to catch up) and have done a first quick attempt at log cabin patchwork. I knew how to, but have never had a go before. I used a central 7cm square, and 6cm wide strips of ripped fabric strips, following the method in 'Quilting in No Time' by Emma Hardy.
You'll see some favourite fabrics here from my stash, a vintage paisley eiderdown fabric, some Cath Kidston, Ikea Rosali Spots and Laura Ashley. I'm still sticking to my 2012 intention of using what I already have. This literally took half an hour - how fantastically quick compared to paper piecing hexagons and hand stitching. Not sure I got the repeat right - should it be random or ordered? - I couldn't decide...
This is gorgeous!! I have Emma's book, and this has inspired me to get it out and try again this weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Hope you feel better soon xx
Thankyou x
DeleteThat's the beauty of sewing - you can make your own rules up! Looks beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteAw, thankyou, I wish I was a bit more random in my crafting sometimes, I'm a bit too ordered!
DeleteSorry to hear you've been under the weather. Your patchwork is lovely! It must be wonderful seeing your stash become unique creations. x
ReplyDeleteThanks Scarlet, love your patchwork squares, tried to comment but couldn't. They will be gorgeous kitchen curtains. Am feeling OK now. Romantic night away for my b'day this weekend, Groupon deal, let's hope it's OK!!
DeleteThe fabrics look wonderful together - quite lovely. I think random will look delightfully vintage and suit the style entirely. Get well soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan, feel better today x

ReplyDeleteHooray Mrs! Definitely caravan or B& B bottom drawer!
DeleteThere's some gorgeous fabrics there and they go so well together. The thing with dogs is that they still need walking no matter how ill you feel. Hope you're feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo x

Thanks Carly, really would recommend it - I got it from the Book People at work for £4 - a bargain. I like Emma Hardy's books. X
DeleteHi Sally, hope you are soon on the mend.At least you have been sensible and stayed home and kept warm! I love the patchwork!! Now the pink and white trellis fabric is very familiar!!!
ReplyDeleteHave felt so poorly Anne...Maybe this will become a caravan quilt! Me and Mrs Fisher pink trellis fabric, well spotted x
DeleteHi - Look after yourself and keep warm. There are some horrible bugs out there at the moment. I love your patchwork. You've used all the colours I adore at the moment! All the best, Jx
ReplyDeleteThankyou! I'm too indecisive in many areas, and even more so with fabric!
DeleteHope you are feeling a bit better, there are lots of these nasty bugs around at the moment. love your log cabin patchwork, the colours are great. The wallpaper you asked about is Melrose by Farrow and Ball and comes in lots of lovely colours.

Thanks Ann, sorry to covet your wallpaper hehe , I thought it may be F&B though, so great. Would be lovely in my kitchen - cooking apple green perhaps, like my chairs. Have to say you have a fantastic eye for display, I adore your photos x
DeleteHope you're keeping warm and on the mend. The patchwork is so pretty, I've only tried squares before and like you say hexagons are so time consuming. This effect looks good for using odd shaped long scraps. Have a good weekend. x
ReplyDeleteThank you ever so much for nominating me for the award, have finally passed it on x
ReplyDeleteHi Sally thanks for your comments.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet a fellow doer of all sorts, :) I'm having a go at crochet after many years away from it. Your patchwork is lovely and sounds much easier than the usual.
