Yesterday I popped along to the
Festival of Vintage at York Racecourse which is now in it's 4th year. Admission for the day was £10 each; I didn't think it was as much as this last year. It's a bit steep, but I suppose it is a festival-type event rather than a vintage fair. We didn't have much time so just had a quick look round the stalls only but you could easily spend the whole 2 days there if you participated in all the things on offer.
This little trailer caravan was parked outside...
...and was decked in just-my-cup-of tea 50s style...
I also loved this 50s kitchen roomset...
Some of the stalls were extremely pricey. I bought these Salter scales for £19 from a lovely couple who had reasonable priced stuff - the same scales were on a nearby stall for £38.
And I got this barkcloth curtain for £10 - just debating whether to make a skirt out of it, what do you think? There's enough for 2 cushions as well.

ReplyDeleteWow.. quite a trip down memory lane! I'm sure that my parents used curtains in that pattern as dust covers when we were decorating. Little did they realise the potential value of vintage fabrics!! Jx

ReplyDeleteI want to sit at that table and drink tea! I went to a large vintage fair recently and was quite disappointed by both the content and the prices - it seems as though a lot of people have jumped on the bandwagon purely to make money. In itself this is fair enough but I did feel sorry for the genuine stallholders who were being swamped by (for example) rails of cut off jeans - not necessarily old - at £25 a pop! The material is beautiful - have you looked at Daisy's sewalong - I think that skirt would be perfect for it. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it x Jane

ReplyDeleteI can remember my mum and dad had one of those 50's kitchen cabinets and the formica table was similar to one they had in their static caravan in the 1970's. Amazing how things come full circle. I really love your fabric and think a skirt would be fab!

Hey we both liked that cute little caravan and I think I saw the reasonably priced scales possibly on a stall with a lovely couple I bought cheap linen from. The £10 was a rip off, some other vintage events only charge £10 for 2 days. I like your fabric and think it would make a lovely skirt, go for it. Glad you & L had a nice time. x

Reminds me of when I was small...our table was formica....remember it was white background with gray, pink, and black specks. Wonderful photos!
